The chief minister raised the demand in a letter to the prime minister after a VC from prime minister Modi on Wednesday. Gehlot also asked for more allocations from the state to strengthen health infrastructure.
The CM said in the letter that Covid-19 has affected the jobs of millions of people. According to estimates from the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate in the country has reached almost 24%.
The MGNREGA program provides financial support to the population in this difficult period. Currently, more than 53 lakh workers in Rajasthan are employed in this program. In order to save them from unemployment, an additional 100 man-days would have to be created. This will benefit 70 lakh rural families in the state.
Gehlot said it has become extremely difficult for states to organize their share of centrally sponsored programs. In such a situation, the Center would have to take over the 100% contribution for the financial year 2020-21.
He said the outstanding GST compensation payment of around Rs 961 crore for fiscal year 2019-2020 is expected to be released soon, as well as the GST compensation for April and May of this year amounting to Rs 4,500 crore.
