In order to avenge the humiliation of non-payment of debt, a man and his friend murdered a loan shark in Madiaon, Lucknow.
According to a report in the Times of India (TOI), Samarjeet, the main defendant in the case, had borrowed Rs 3 lakh from the now deceased victim, Mohammad Yasin.
Samarjeet, however, failed to repay the full amount to the lender on time and returned only half of the borrowed money.
According to officers, the victim and the accused used to work together and Yasin, a real estate broker, used to demand money from Samarjeet in front of other people, which he found humiliating.
Frustrated by the constant humiliation of not being able to return the money, Samarjeet took the extreme step of killing his moneylender.
Accused motivated by motive for revenge
In order to get revenge, Samarjeet and his friend Aditya Sonkar, another defendant in the case, planned to kill Yasin.
Prachi Singh was quoted by TOI as saying that as part of the plan, on January 3, Samarjeet called Yasin with him to see a new pitch in Barabanki. Seeking an opportunity there, Samarjeet and Aditya attacked Yasin with a cleaver and killed him.
However, the case only came to light after seven days when the victim’s body was found in a ditch on Monday.
