CHENNAI: DMK Chairman MP Stalin said Center’s Rs 20 lakh crore package to lift lockdown on Indian economy after lockdown will not help people, farmers and guest workers .
“A situation report submitted to the Supreme Court (SC) by the Union Home Office indicates that there are 4.14 crores of guest workers in the country. However, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman claimed the Center had provided an eight crore ration of guest workers. during a pandemic, the Center only makes stylized notifications, ”Stalin said in a statement.
He said the Center should, at least now, distribute money to guest workers, day laborers, roadside traders and other poor people without any delay. “The Center must immediately renounce all loans taken out by farmers and provide Rs 5,000 to all families of guest workers for three months and Rs 10,000 to roadside traders,” he added.
The party chairman further called the central government a “money lender”. “They just advertise more loans instead of providing direct financial support. The announcements that have been made so far will not even help 50% of the population and the government should see how people are suffering, ”Stalin said.
